How to measure door-to-door sales

Count knocks, contacts, appointments, and closes from the disposition log. How managers read a canvassing day without inventing a benchmark.

  • Field ops
  • D2D CRM
  • Knock logging

After the crew is on the doors, the manager's next problem is the scoreboard. This guide says which counts to keep and which ratio you mean when you say conversion. It follows how to run a door-to-door sales team.

The counts have to come from the knock, not from a recap. If the disposition was tapped at the door, the day can be read. If it was remembered in the truck, the number is a story.

Four counts

  1. Knocks: doors attempted, including no answer.
  2. Contacts: a person actually talked. Only split this from knocks if the disposition set has a no-answer outcome.
  3. Appointments: a sit-down or callback with a time. Follow up after the knock and put that time on the shared calendar so it survives the walk back to the car.
  4. Closes: a sale tied to the rep and the address. Log the sale in the same workspace as the knock.

Say which conversion you mean

  • Closes divided by knocks is harsh. It includes empty houses.
  • Closes divided by contacts ignores doors where nobody answered.
  • Appointments divided by contacts is the setter number. Closes divided by appointments is the sit.

Write the definition next to the number. A crew that celebrates "conversion" without saying the denominator will argue about a different math problem every Friday.

Where the numbers live

Team performance shows knocks, closes, conversion, the disposition breakdown, and a rep leaderboard from the knocks already logged. It is the same workspace as the route. The product page for the whole loop is still the door-to-door operations workspace.

What we have not measured

This page does not publish a "good" close rate. BetterKnocks has not run a public count of close rate by vertical. A useful next study would be opt-in workspace totals: knocks, contacts, appointments, and closes, with the disposition rules written down first. Until that count exists, treat any industry percentage you see elsewhere as someone else's claim.

FAQ

What should a door-to-door team track every day?

Knocks, contacts, appointments, and closes, taken from the disposition log. Name the denominator when you talk about conversion.

Does BetterKnocks publish an average close rate?

No. This guide explains the counts. It does not report a measured benchmark.
